Mentorships

SoCal HIMSS is the No. 1 professional membership organization for helping early health IT careerists transition from academia into the health IT workforce.

Our Mentorship Program provides unique and dynamic partnerships between seasoned health IT mentors and protégés in a variety of health IT disciplines who wish to give back to their profession by supporting the next generation of early careerists who are passionate about health information management technology careers.

Protégés that participate in the mentorship program will gain valuable insight into career development through low intensity, anytime-anywhere mentoring. Mentors will gain leadership visibility among the community, and will be able to make a difference in to the next generation of healthcare IT leadership in only a 15 minute/week commitment.

HOW IT WORKS  

Mentors
As a HIMSS SoCal Chapter mentor you will act as a friend, a teacher, and a guide, and encourage, advise, and assist HIMSS SoCal  new careerists and emerging leaders with their career development and mid-career transitions by sharing your own experiences and knowledge of the Health Information Technology and Management profession and professional networks.

After completing a brief enrollment form our Mentorship Program  Coordinator will contact you to discuss potential protégés and to introduce you to your selected match. An introduction call is then arranged with your protégé.

Protégés - HIMSS SoCal Student Membership Required

Protégés will have opportunities to explore their chosen career path through interaction with seasoned professionals who work in their chosen field of expertise to identify long-term professional development needs and realize the value of professional networking. An introduction call will be arranged with your mentor.

TIME COMMITMENT

Mentors will usually provide from 30 to 60 minutes per month over a period of 6 months. Meeting times to be decided and communicated to potential protégés during initial introduction.

Step 1. Fill out your enrollment application 
Step 2. Upon receipt of application you will receive a welcome letter
Step 3. Program Coordinator will begin the matching process
Step 4. You will be contacted by email for a phone call to discuss matches
Step 5. Select your protégé
Step 6. Coordinator arranges introduction call
Step 7. Mentorship begins!
Step 8. Complete satisfaction survey at completion of mentorship
